Let us not waste a great crisis” is the mantra we constantly hear from great minds ever since we experienced the Covid-19 pandemic crisis of 2020. For businesses or large corporations, it might mean re-evaluating how they currently operate and make it more crisis proof in the future.

Some might make their online presence as strong as their bricks and mortar presence. Some might change the way they interact with their customers. Some might even go further as re-branding the business to fit the current ethos. Whatever change they want to do, it all starts with looking at their current status and asking, how can we do better? It takes courage to change how business operates.

But it takes more courage to look at our personal lives and ask, Will I DARE do better?

The effects of this crisis will be felt by each of us for years to come. So it would be a good start to ask yourself, “what are the things in my life that are not serving me right now? Is my current life the life I really want to live? Will I be happier and live a  purposeful life doing something else? What thoughts and beliefs do I currently have that needs to be re-evaluated and changed to fit the life I want to live.”
Some people will have the luxury of choosing to live a new life. But a lot of us have already been thrust into a life where we have no choice but to do something else. This could have been brought out of job loss, or just being tired of the things happening in our lives that we HAVE to change. The first thing you can do is NOT panic.

For the moment, let us focus on  finding a new job or starting a business or a side hustle to earn us a living. Ask yourself “ what are the things that I am currently doing that excites me the most, and how can I use it to my advantage” Most people are in jobs that they are not happy to be in. For them, it's only a way to earn a living. It does not excite them. They don’t wake up in the morning feeling energized. Their job does not make them jump put of bed in the morning.

We know how a lot of us hate living outside our comfort zone. Ask yourself, “Now that I can start from scratch, do I want to live the same life I had before, having the same issues and problems and unmet dreams, or do I dare do something else?” Did't you say you loved baking or photography or making shoes... and you wished you could do that everyday? Didn't you say you wished you had your own business so you can implement the things you wanted to do for the longest time? So...what are you waiting for?

If you have lost the job you were not excited to  go to, call this crisis a blessing in disguise, a kick in the bum for you to move and do something else. Be grateful. If you have lost the job you love, call this crisis a blessing in disguise, a kick in the bum to do something of the same but better. Be grateful. If your life before the crisis was uncomfortable leading to more potential discomfort, why not try something uncomfortable leading to something potentially wonderful.

If you look at life from a different perspective, which is one of curiosity and growth not fear and dread, then this crisis, this phase of our lives will be just what it is. A phase, a season, one that has a beginning and an end. Reinventing yourself, your job, your life is all about lessons learned and skills acquired. What lessons have you learned which you can use in your reinvented life? What skills have you gained which would be useful in your next life?

Be bold, be brave. Have courage. This is a call for celebration, and an invitation to reinvent yourself and your life. Now you can tell yourself “I am not going to waste a great crisis”. It all starts with your decision and the thoughts you allow into your mind.
